Mission/Grant Guidelines
John A. McNeice, Jr., the Grantor of the Foundation, offered the following guidance to the trustees of the Foundation, for determining whether to approve a distribution: " ... distributions primarily to the Roman Catholic Church and Church related charitable, educational, and medical organizations ... more specifically, to support and promote (1) the Catholic faith and mission of the Catholic Church; (2) the education, training, and development, both spiritual and intellectual, of young people; (3) those who are unable to support themselves."
Trustees will first ensure that requests comply with the above statement by the Grantor.
To help trustees make informed decisions, please note:
- Preference will be toward those organizations whose proposals intend to immediately use the distributions, either for direct program costs - or to acquire facilities/equipment within the next year, necessary to fulfill their mission. Distributions will not be made for building up endowments or other investments.
- The trustees are favorably disposed toward those organizations with a lean GuideStar rating that shows administration costs as a small percent of revenue.
- CPA certified financials for the most recent 2 years are generally required for requests of $50,000 or more. Donee-prepared financials for lesser amounts are acceptable.
- Up to 5 future annual installments will be considered for award, to those organizations meeting the requirements stated herein. At least 5 years must elapse after the final installment on any grant, before renewed funding will be considered. Consistent, permanent annual funding will not be approved.
- A current IRS Form 990 must be submitted on our portal with your application.
- Generally, approved requests will be in the range of $25,000 to $250,000 per year.
- Awards are only rarely granted to organizations located outside Massachusetts, as the Grantor's residence, business, and numerous interests were all located in Massachusetts.
